Marks on Paper
Marks on Paper is an exhibition of drawings, which in contrast to our information age, links us back to the earliest works of art. In our current age of information, the human presence is often so far removed from the source that we are left with a copy of a copy into infinity that may or may not resemble the original idea. Or, the original idea is expressed through a medium, like video, that instantly removes the human presence, with the screen serving as a portal into a 4th dimension where all thoughts or ideas can be shared by a collective whole.
Drawing is a direct form of communication in the most tangible way. The artist hand cannot be hidden or camouflaged like in painting. It is a direct transmission of ideas that the artists is present for and acts upon. Some artists use drawing to explore or document their ideas as preparation for a painting or other medium. Other artists use drawing as their main art form. Whatever the reasons for making them, marks on paper are records of thoughts or ideas made by a human hand.
